WhatsApp status is an unused feature. Find out what it is and how you can use it to share better content with friends and family!
When WhatsApp was first launched in 2009, its status was one of the most intriguing features. Instead of just saying Available or Busy, users could put any text in the inbox that appears next to their name. WhatsApp posting has quickly become the preferred way to let people know what’s going on in your life.
In 2017, WhatsApp renewed its status feature. It’s now similar to Snapchat and Instagram stories, but the old feature is simply WhatsApp for WhatsApp sharing. While WhatsApp Status may initially seem like a Snapchat clone, there is one spin that makes it useful for viewers.
What is the status of WhatsApp?
WhatsApp Status is a feature that allows you to upload status updates that disappear 24 hours after you install them. You can share your photos, videos, text, links and also GIFs. If you know how to use stories on Instagram, you will feel right at home. You will quickly learn how to check a friend’s WhatsApp status and update yours.
By default, WhatsApp Status is only activated between two users who have reciprocal contacts stored in the respective folders. If you do not have someone’s number saved in your contacts, they will not be able to see your status message.

On Android, click on the Status tab at the top to open the WhatsApp Status Update section. On your iPhone, you’ll find the Status tab at the bottom of the app.
Here you will automatically see a list of available status updates from your contacts under the Recent Updates tab. Tap the contact’s name to play their WhatsApp status update.
The movie or video plays automatically. If it is an image, it will remain on the screen for a few seconds before the application shows the next status from the same contact (if they have submitted more than one update).
Once you have seen all the updates from the contact, you will be automatically redirected to the next status update from the next contact you publish.
If you find the image disappears too quickly, you can return to the status screen and view the update again – or you can tap and hold the screen to pause the status. This will also hide the username.
Alternatively, tap the three-point menu in the upper right corner to pause the status. This gives you plenty of time to take screenshots of your iPhone or Android device.
