In these video games, the main characters are college-aged and go on quests to find themselves and be happy.

In video games, the main character can be any age or come from any background. But it’s not common to find games about college-aged main characters and what they think about school, society, and their goals. Since a character’s choices in their late teens and early twenties can be very important to them, video games that focus on this time often stand out and hit home with players.

There may not be many games with main characters in college, but the ones that do show how important that time is. Whether the main characters in these games are in school or doing something else, the fact that they are young or haven’t done much makes them interesting storytellers.

In some ways, Aloy’s coming-of-age experience is still like college, even though she has to accept that she can’t go to college.

Witchbrook

Witchbrook

Witchbrook is different from many other games about college because it is more like a life simulator. In the magical indie game, players take control of a witch-in-training who goes to Witchbrook College to take classes and do extracurricular activities to improve their magic skills and make friends.

Max from Life is Strange is a traditional senior at Blackwell Academy. However, the school has a two-year program for seniors where they can continue to study with the school’s famous teachers in exchange for college credit or professional experience. Max is on track to move into college-level classes and experiences soon. This will give her a unique view of the world around her before she starts messing with time.

Night In The Woods

Night In The Woods

After three semesters of college, Mae Borowski moves back in with her parents in the small town of Possum Springs. As she walks down the streets of her old neighborhood, she sees her old friends and talks to them again, but she also realizes that their lives have moved on without her. Mae slowly tells us why she dropped out of college, even though her parents worked hard to make sure she had everything she needed to grow and do well elsewhere. Her dreams and strange things that happen to her are clues.

Night in the Woods is known for being a relaxing game with a cozy autumn look, but it also shows Mae’s mental health and her mixed feelings about growing up in a realistic way. Her life experiences help her decide what to do, even if other people don’t always see how important they are.
