We’re a couple of days away from welcoming 2022 with open arms, and do you know what that means? It’s time for our annual New Year Resolutions! And since the last two years have been harsh on us (and our travel plans that didn’t see the light of day), we hope one of your resolutions involves traveling more often.

Whether you’re an avid traveler pre-pandemic or a hermit crab who wants to come out of your shell to explore more of the world, we’d love you to check out these ten fun travel resolutions for 2022!

End 2021 with a bang before we dive into our 2022 travel plans. Let’s say goodbye to this awesome year with a bang first — by traveling, of course.

Compared to New Year 2020, we’re fortunate enough to go out, meet with our family for a New Year’s Eve celebration or watch a spectacular fireworks display in public places. Take that opportunity. Step outside of your home and watch live events, enjoy a feast at a restaurant, join the midnight countdown in a prime city attraction, and make your end-of-year celebrations worth remembering.

Get fully-vaccinated

Gone are the days when we wished for a vaccine to be developed. Today, we’re seeing them roll out rapidly, so get your shot as soon as it’s available to you. Aside from protecting you from COVID-19 during your vacation, getting vaccinated can also secure a hassle-free trip. Soon, your proof of vaccination is as important as your passport, with the travel industry favoring vaccinated tourists.

Go big!

2021 was a year of “staycations” and domestic travels. Due to strict regulations and closed borders, travelers were advised to scratch their travel itch by going on road trips and visiting new places that are close to home. 2022, fortunately, will be the year to go big with our travel plans.

Go out of the country. As long as your destination is not on the red list, kick off some of the places on your travel bucket list. If you choose to stay in the country, fly to somewhere you haven’t been to before.

Upgrade your travel experiences

While we love budget travel and cheap deals, try to splurge on your travel experiences every once in a while. Don’t hesitate to pay extra if that means you’ll be getting the best of experiences.

Save up for a trip to Europe. Upgrade your flight options to be around the fewest number of people for safety and comfort. Skip hostels and book a four-star boutique hotel in Sheffield UK. Treat yourself to that fancy restaurant you’ve been longing to go to. Spoil yourself this year.

Be spontaneous and try something new.

Aside from discovering a new place, be more open to new experiences.

Skip your go-to meals and try to get a taste of the local cuisines and cultures. Patronize roadside eateries and night markets instead of going to lavish restaurants. Shop at flea markets and skip big shopping malls. Dive into the nightlife instead of heading straight back to your hotel after sundown.

Go off the beaten track and discover hidden gems.

If you’ve been traveling for quite some time, you must have seen the top-rated local and international tourist attractions. This year, challenge yourself to skip places that get a lot of hype and go off the beaten track.

Plan itineraries but don’t be afraid to break them, using your time to venture into the unknown. Step into a restaurant without checking the menu and reviews first online. As long as you have your map and communication devices with you, you’ll be fine.

Make trips safer and more comfortable.

To travel is a privilege. A luxury. So the last thing you want is to ruin your once-in-a-lifetime 2022 vacation with bad planning (or the lack thereof).

Safety first! Let’s not forget that the pandemic is still here, so ground your travel decisions on things that will make you and your family as safe as possible. Go for hotels, airfares, and travel companies with strict COVID-19 protocols. Avoid crowds too by traveling during the low season or picking a low-traffic destination.

Then, make your trips as pleasant as possible. Pack lightly, and travel only with a carry-on. Bring earplugs, eye masks, a travel pillow, and other stuff you might need to make your trip comfortable. Research your destination well, including the hotel location, accessibility of transportation, dining options, prices, and proximity to places you’re planning to visit.

Opt for fewer yet longer trips

We know you’ve been deprived of two year’s-worth of freedom to travel. With this, you may want to see as many tourist sites as possible the moment you get the chance. However, running from one place to another is not worth the stress and exhaustion. You’ll end up seeing more but enjoying nothing.

Quality over quantity, people. Trim down your itinerary to only a few and make the most of where you are. Spend days on each destination instead of devoting a few hours on one before jumping onto the next.

Less social media, more actual socializing

We’ve been glued to our screens for almost two years. Let’s turn that around and have a real travel experience with normal human beings, shall we?

While we’re still advising you to put your masks on and keep your distance from others, don’t let the protocols stop you from socializing. Go to a local pub and have fun. Have a real conversation.

And travel because you want to truly experience the destination, not so you can appear “cool” on social media. See things with your own eyes, not through the lens of your phone camera.

Make the most out of your much-needed breaks.

If you feel like the lines are blurred between working days and weekends during the pandemic, you’re not alone. The chances are that you’re working from home, and your Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays feel as boring as your Mondays.

This year, promise yourself to inject fun into your weekends and holidays. Go out. Discover a new attraction or restaurant. Ask your family and friends to go on a road trip or a day out. Life is short, and we’re not promised tomorrow, so make the most out of it while we can.
