KARACHI:
Popular television host and politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain died on Thursday at his residence in Karachi – weeks after saying “goodbye” to Pakistan in an emotional video message.
Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain – who is a PTI MNA from a Karachi constituency – was found unconscious at his residence in Khudadad Colony, according to his aide Javaid.
The 50-year-old man was taken to a hospital where he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
Ramzan Chippa, chairman of Chippa Welfare Trust, said that Dr Aamir died 15 to 20 minutes before they were taken to the hospital.
Referring to his will, the philanthropist said the late televangelist wanted to be buried near the graves of his parents at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine. He added that he would take care of the last rites of the dying soul.
Relatives said that preparations for the funeral had already begun. The arrival of Aamir Liaquat’s son was also arranged.
The flight was reportedly delayed due to the Covid-19 lockdown at the UK airport. A decision on when to request a funeral could not yet be decided, they added.
During the National Assembly session, news about Dr Aamir was shown on TV. Confirming the death, President Pervaiz Ashraf adjourned the proceedings till 5 pm tomorrow.
According to reports, the anchor locked the door of his apartment from the inside. The servant knocked several times in the morning but to no avail. He said Dr Aamir complained of chest pain on Wednesday night.
The former MNA driver told the police that “they heard a noise from [Aamir’s] room the previous day”. Server Javaid added that Dr Aamir cried throughout the night and kept saying that he would die.
“He [MNA Aamir] always used to says he betrayed me,” Javaid said. “I have no idea if it’s magic or what. I feel like I’m going to die here,” Amir said. Aamir was quoted as saying. “His wife,” Javaid was asked.
Javaid recalled that Dr Aamir in the morning said he would leave for Islamabad in the morning.
Body of Dr Aamir was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem. Police dropped the charges but said they could conclude after the autopsy.
A medical society was formed for this purpose. Police Surgeon Karachi Dr Samia Syed will head the board, with Dr Sikander Azam and Dr Rajendra Kumar as other members. However, the family reportedly prevented authorities from conducting an autopsy.
Dr Aamir was heartbroken when his third wife, Dania Shah, released inappropriate videos of him before filing for divorce – just months after the popular TV host broke the news of his third marriage to “Syeda Dania Shah, 18, from Honorable Najeebut Tarfain’. Sadaat’ is the name. Lodhran village, South Punjab”.
The couple got engaged in February but soon fell out. Dania Shah accused him of alcohol, drug abuse and violence. He also shared an objectionable clip of Dr Aamir to support his claim, which later went viral on social media.
“Everyone buried my name in the muck about a girl whose interviews she shouldn’t have had in the first place. She filed for divorce, and I was doing it,” the TV host said in his last video message.
“All these new YouTubers and nominal journalists who stepped forward [to cover Dania] have done a great injustice to Pakistan. I can’t even beat my kids. There no choice left for me but to leave the country,” he said.
Before joining PTI, Drs. Aamir was associated with the Karachi-based MQM-P. He was the country’s prime minister under military dictator General Pervez Musharraf. He was twice elected to the National Assembly – first in 2002 and then in the year.
She was born on July 5, 1972, and has two children.
Dr Aamir is a popular host of Ramazan stories – the antics that take place before and after the Iftaar fasting month. When he started his media career in 2001, he joined an independent media agency and bought “Aalim Online”, which contributed greatly to his initial popularity. He also partnered with Express Media Group. Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Foreign Minister and president expressed sorrow for the death of MNA Amir Liaquat.
