Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch (2023) is the updated version of the Apple MacBook. Even though the 2023 model is less innovative than the 2021 model, it is still an extremely powerful workstation laptop with an industry-leading display and battery life.
Pros
- New chips called M2 Pro and M2 Max
- Over 20 hours on a single charge
- Still has the best laptop screen
Cons
- These laptops are Expensive.
Do You Know the Design Features of the Apple MacBook PRO 14-inch?
The Apple MacBook Pro 14 looks just like its predecessor, which is a good thing. You get the same squared-off, super-solid aluminum body that comes in Silver and Space Gray. I do wish Apple had more colour options, like the Midnight Blue on the MacBook Air M2. The Dell Precision 17 7730 can also store up to an amazing 8 TB of data, which is a lot. You are making it one of the best and biggest in the industry. Why can’t a powerful enough laptop to launch rockets also be fun?
I still like the little details of this laptop, like how easy it is to open with one hand and how fast it is to sign in with the Touch ID button and the elegantly carved “MacBook Pro” on the bottom.
The Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch is a bit big for a 14-inch laptop. It is 12.31 x 8.71 x 0.61 inches and weighs 3.5 pounds (3.6 pounds for the M2 Max version). For example, the Huawei Matebook X Pro and the HP Spectre x360 14 both weigh 3 pounds, but they don’t have as much power.
Touch Sensor
Even though I like that the keyboard has a Touch ID button, I wish Apple would add a Face ID sensor to the Apple MacBook Pro 14. You can log in to a lot of Windows laptops just by looking at the front of the system, and some can even tell when you walk up to the laptop. For a laptop that costs this much, it seems like an obvious thing to add.
How Many Ports are Available in MacBook Pro 14-Inch?
If you want more than just Thunderbolt/USB-C ports, you should still get the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Yes, it has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, but it also has an SD card slot and an HDMI port, which photographers and videographers need.
Since the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch supports the HDMI 2.1 standard, the HDMI port now supports up to 8K resolution at 60Hz on an external display. You can also connect a 4K display that can run at up to 240Hz.
Keep in mind that the M2 Pro chip can support up to two external displays, while the M2 Max chip can support up to four.
Display and Sound of Macbook Pro 14-Inch
The mini-LED screen on the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch is one of the best you’ll find on any laptop. It’s bright and colourful and has a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate for a smooth picture. When I was getting some b-roll for our review video and watching the trailer for Mandalorian season 3, I got so caught up in this panel that I forgot about it. I temporarily forgot that I was also supposed to take pictures.
When I saw the trailer, I was impressed by how shiny Mandalorian’s helmet was. In one scene, I could see tiny drops of water on it. Greef Karga, who was played by Carl Weathers, wore a rich gold cape that really stood out. In a darker scene, I could even see small hairs on Grogu’s head.
Do You Know the Screen Resolution of Apple MacBook Pro 14?
As expected, the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch screen did well in our lab tests, starting with brightness. When we used our light meter to look at HDR content, we saw up to 1,447 nits on 10% of the screen and 1,081 nits on the whole screen.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro’s screen covered 83.4% of the more demanding DCI-P3 colour space and 117.7% of the sRGB colour space. The Dell XPS 15 did a little better on both tests, getting 122.7% and 86.9%, respectively.
The colours on the screen of Apple’s laptop, which got a Delta-E score of 0.19, are a bit more accurate (where 0 is perfect). The score for the XPS 15 was 0.22.
With the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch’s six-speaker sound system, which has four force-canceling woofers and two tweeters, that same trailer sounded like thunder. Even when the volume was turned up high, everything, from the Mandalorian speech to the laser fire to the wind instruments, sounded clear and sharp.
When I turned to Spotify, the Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch handled The Weekend’s “Blinding Lights” perfectly, with its driving drums and soaring vocals. When “I like you” began, Post Malone’s voice trilled, filling a medium-sized room with sound as each beat snapped. This is a system that can be used for both work and play.
Performance of the MacBook PRO 14-Inch
Whether you choose the M2 Pro model or the M2 Max model, the MacBook Pro 14-inch can handle anything you throw at it with ease. Go for the M2 Max if your video or graphics projects need more power.
The M2 Pro chip starts with a CPU that has ten cores and a GPU that has 16 cores. It also has 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage. Besides, the Google Pixelbook 12in is a high-performance Chromebook. It is the first laptop with Google Assistant built-in. Apple sent us a version to test that costs an outrageous $4,099, but it also has an outrageous amount of power with a 12-core CPU, 38-core GPU, 64GB of memory, and 2TB of storage.
Has Macbook Pro 14-inch Good for Graphics and Games?
The Apple MacBook Pro 14- inch has a lot of graphics options, starting with a GPU with 16 cores. We ran benchmarks on both the 19-core GPU in the M2 Pro chip and the 38-core GPU in the M2 Max chip, and there is a clear difference between the two.
The MacBook Pro M2 Pro got a score of 47,844 and 287 frames per second on 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited, which tests how well graphics work. The M2 Max chip made those results almost twice as good.
The MacBook Pro M1 Pro got a score of 38,406 and 230 fps, which is about 20% more than the M2 Pro.
How well does the Apple MacBook pro 14 Battery has?
Based on our tests, the MacBook Pro 14-inch M2 Pro has a great battery life. The Tom’s Guide Battery Test, which involves continuously surfing the web at 150 nits of screen brightness, lasted an amazing 14 hours and 2 minutes. That’s almost as long as the MacBook Pro M1, which lasted 14:08, but not quite.
The MacBook Pro M2 Max didn’t last as long, but 12 hours and 51 minutes are still pretty good for a computer with that much power. The Dell XPS 15 didn’t last more than 10 hours. But the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 is still the winner because it can run for more than 18 hours.
