Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unidentified assailants on Sunday evening (May 29) while he was walking in the northern Indian state of Punjab.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered an inquiry into the incident to be headed by a Supreme Court judge.

On Sunday (May 29), state police commissioner VK Bhawra declared a Canadian gangster responsible for the attack.
According to the BBC, on Monday (May 30), Mr. Bhawra said in a statement that Moose Wala was not “gang or gang-linked”.
“One Goldy Brar took responsibility for the death of Moose Wala on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The investigation will look into all aspects of the murder,” he said, adding that some publications “wrongly quoted him”.
However, Moose Wala’s family demanded an apology from Mr. Bhawra for linking him to gang rivalry due to a lack of proper investigation.
